Joseph M. McCarthy was born and raised in Seattle, Washington, and graduated from the University of Washington and New York University's Institute of Film and Television. After a career writing, producing, and directing films, videotapes, exhibits and presentations for corporate, advertising, and not-for-profit clients, he produced his own film, The Brave Man. Thereafter he published BKLYN magazine for several years. He also served as an executive and fundraiser for not-for-profit organizations. He and his wife have lived and raised their children in Brooklyn. Throughout his life he has written poetry.
