Glen F. Alden graduated from Morse High School in Bath, Maine, and subsequently earned a BA in English Literature from Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts. He served in the Navy, undertaking duties in Newport, Rhode Island, the Philippines, and Da Nang, South Vietnam. He worked at a family-owned business in Daytona Beach, Florida, from 1996 to 2011, when he relocated to Gorham, New Hampshire. He currently owns and operates the Trail Break Airbnb, which is located just 9 miles as the crow flies from Mount Washington.
As a young boy attending the West Point Village grade school in Phippsburg, Maine, his school bus ran directly over the ground once occupied by Fort St. George in the early 17th century. At the time, no one realized it was a historically significant site of early American colonization. Glen’s interest in history drove him to investigate the facts surrounding that initial attempt at New England colonization, and he wrote Thunder Snow, based on Captain George Popham’s short-lived colony.
Thunder Snow was followed by four novels featuring the fictional Aleyn James family: Dry Rain in Jamestown, Virginia; Heat Lightning, primarily set in and around Spanish St. Augustine; Nor’easters, focused on the Plymouth colony; and Fire Storm, which occurs during King Philip’s War. When it came time to publish, he combined Thunder Snow and Dry Rain, Volumes 1 and 2 of the series, into a single book and did the same with Heat Lightning and Nor’easters, Volumes 3 and 4. Fire Storm, Volume 5, is scheduled for publication later in 2025. He hopes you’ll enjoy getting to know Aleyn and his family as more historically accurate stories are on the way!
