Jonna Doreen lives in the Flint Hills of Northeast Kansas. Born and raised in El Paso, TX, she moved to Kansas to raise her family. She gardens, paints and explores the wilderness of Beautiful Kansas. Follow Your Brother is her second children's book.
She had the kids out in the garden often and worried about the snakes, spiders, garden hoes and poisonous plants found on the Kansas Prairie. She counted on her two older children to help keep the youngest safe. She would sing “Follow your brother wherever he goes, protect him from snakes, spiders and hoes.” It became their daily chant as they made their way down to the garden. She changed hoes to crows for this book just in case her audience wasn’t familiar with the garden tool. It is a love letter to her children, documenting that precious and sacred part of motherhood that is over way too soon.
