John Archer Spurlock grew up in the green hills of eastern Kentucky. His great great great grandfather, John Spurlock, Jr. was the first settler in what is now Prestonsburg. John sez his greatest passion in life has been the exploration of the many high rocks, gorges and caves that are unique to that area. He helped build and maintain many of the trails there, including his volunteer work on the original Jenny Wiley Trail.
Besides being a novelist, Spurlock has had success being an artist, architect and radio programmer. In younger days he was an award-winning singer. He still plays both the baritone ukulele and piano by ear.
