Leslie M. Durr is a retired advanced practice mental health nurse, born and raised in New York. Transplanting to Virginia to teach at the university as a young adult, she found the required writing for publication painful and anxiety-provoking. Because of a busy career and family life, she took seven years to finish the most important piece of writing up to that time, the dissertation.
Toward the end of a busy career, with a private practice of psychotherapy, she was invited to write a mental health blog and discovered that, unhampered by the constraints of academic writing, words and ideas flowed. She discovered that she actually loved to write. And she discovered there was a story that wanted to be told.
