At the beginning of 21st century, books on natural hair were centered on experiential learning. Identifying a gap, in 2009, Michele became the first author of natural hair care focused on the science of tightly coiled hair and the science of locking tightly coiled hair. Michele shares her wealth of knowledge within The Knotty Truth® book series, integrating the science of natural hair care, with a special emphasis on self-empowerment and education via D-I-Y.
Michele is a trained scientist and Certified Clinical Research Professional® with a BA in Biology, MS in Physiology and MHA in Healthcare Management, along with her certification in clinical, biomedical research. To complement her hands on experience in haircare, Michele earned a CPT as a Certified Personal Exercise Trainer ('03) and certification in Natural Hair ('10). When not hiking, biking, or mentoring the next generations of scientists, Michele specializes in lock installation, maintenance, empowerment consultations and workshops.
Michele is a Silver Star and Life Member of the first and oldest black sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. committed to economics, education, social action, the environment, human rights, political activism and equity.
