Dr. S.D. Brooks has worked with babies, children and teenagers as a babysitter, camp counselor, after-school counselor, social worker, teacher, and now as a children's book author. As a young child, she was a Special Education student. The read-along style she shared with her mother at bedtime created fond memories of a soothing bonding experience while enhancing her reading skills so drastically, she was soon the one reading the stories to her mother, instead of the other way around.
As a teacher, she had the opportunity to participate in song-filled read-alongs with younger students and interactive read-alouds with older students. Recreating that experience is the reason she began writing her own books. She hopes that her passion for storytelling will reach the masses.
Dr. Brooks (the doctor is in homage of Dr. Seuss) has a B.A. in Psychology and a Masters in Elementary/Special Education. There Are Elephants in My Apartment is her first book.
