Ruben Canales is a retired Army Veteran who served in Vietnam, Desert Storm, and Desert Shield, terms of duty in which he had firsthand ER experiences as a medic in field hospitals. Upon returning home, Canales suffered greatly from PTSD and sought therapy and writing as an avenue to process his trauma. He hopes that his poetry will not only cultivate more empathy among his readers for the veteran community, but also inspire hope and opportunity for the future.
