Professor Don Jacob’s love affair with martial arts began at nine years old on the Caribbean island of Trinidad and Tobago. Under the guidance of the late Grand Master O-Sensei Clyde Thomas in the art of Judo.
As he grew older, he studied Karate and Jiujitsu, among other martial arts. Then, in 1975, Professor Jacob created the indigenous martial arts style known today as Don Jitsu Ryu.
This art form has been performed in numerous countries such as Japan, China, India, Australia, Thailand, Cambodia, Singapore, and South Korea, including Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and the Caribbean. Professor Jacob has appeared in numerous international magazines, newspapers, and influential television channels worldwide, including BBC Sports News, ABC’s Wide World of Sports, and the former British Channel’s Trans World Sport. He continues to produce many champions locally and internationally.
In 2010, Professor Don Jacob was honored to receive the Hummingbird Gold Medal Award from the Government of Trinidad & Tobago, one of the most prestigious National Citizens Awards in Trinidad and Tobago’s Constitution.
In that same year, 2010, Professor Jacob was given the Gayelle Television Station’s Pierrot Award: The People’s Award for the citizen who most contributes to the grassroots people of Trinidad and Tobago.
The Don Jitsu Ryu System has taught several thousands of students worldwide over the past four decades.
