Publisher Info

Born in Welkom, South Africa, Geoffrey Wells spent a childhood moving from one mining town to another with his mother and mining consultant father who read the classics to Geoffrey and his three sisters. Geoffrey’s diverse interests in playing piano and drums, cross-country running, observing elephants, and climbing the Drakensberg Mountains led to attempts at writing short stories.

A 1973 visit to Mozambique became his first thriller, A FADO FOR THE RIVER, published in 2011.

His career as Art Director in advertising lured him to filmmaking, and after immigrating to the U.S. in 1980, he studied producing at the American Film Institute and at night worked the graveyard room service shift at a Beverly Hills hotel, where he served famous and infamous actors and rock stars.

An ambidextrous brain led him to information technology where, at Disney, he rose to VP for the ABC-TV stations and later joined the Fox Station Group as Chief Information Officer.

Inspired by his ascent of Kilimanjaro in 2003 and horrified by the devastation of elephants, he published ATONE FOR THE IVORY CLOUD, in 2016.

Concurrent with his corporate life, Wells continued working on his creative output, writing, producing, and editing an animated film, THE SHADOW OF DOUBT, directed and animated by his wife, Cynthia Wells. The film showed in 27 film festivals and won five awards.

In 2015 he edited, designed and published the children’s book, MOONGLOW written by Peggy Dickerson and illustrated by Cynthia Wells.

THE DROWNING BAY, his latest ecosuspense, draws from his concern for the environment of the North Fork of Long Island. In 2013 he ran for Trustee, a political appointment charged with managing coastal areas and wetlands. With his wife he has farmed oysters with Cornell Cooperative Extension, and has for five seasons videotaped and produced Long Island Grown, a lecture series for the Peconic Land Trust.

He lives on the North Fork of Long Island where he participates in triathlons and swims the open water of Peconic Bay with his wife and their dog, Luciano.
