About the Author

Gail Kuhnlein published her first children's picture book, How Happy Is a Lark?, in November 2022. This was the realization of a long-awaited dream come true. She's been writing stories since she was young. Gail is excited to welcome children Into the Thicket, her new picture book.

Gail majored in journalism and public relations at Michigan State University. She worked in the field for over 30 years, most recently in communications at the University of Michigan's Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. People she met at UM were instrumental in publishing her first picture book.

She and her first picture book were featured in several local newspapers, including the Ann Arbor Family Press, Ann Arbor Family Observer, The Ann Arbor Observer Saline City Guide and The Saline Post. How Happy is a Lark won several Story Monsters Royal Book Awards including second place in New Author Fiction, and Honorable Mentions in: Best Cover Design, Illustrations and Picture Book 5 and Under. The book is a Story Monsters Approved winner. Lark earned a 5 star review from the Reader's Choice Book Awards. Gail was spotlighted in the Hugs and Hurrahs column by the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators - Michigan. 

She lives with her husband, Tim, just outside Ann Arbor, Michigan, where they've been for nearly 30 years. They adore their two adult sons, Davey and Trevor. Gail loves walking outdoors, yoga, reading, photography and folk rock. They live with the two sweetest cats in the galaxy.
