Denys James Browden first dreamt of the world he would name Maera in the winter of 1980. Inspired by the fantasy/horror writings of Tolkien, Howard, Lovecraft, Moorcock, Zelazny, Stoker and others, and with the encouragement of his only brother, he drew the original map of the continent of Caan and, in so doing, began a life-long labor of love chronicling a fantasy world.
James, as he prefers to be called, made annual treks to Origin and GenCon conventions in the ‘80s where meeting icons of the gaming industry and playing with good people from around the country further impassioned his love of the hobby. Biweekly playing sessions with family and friends as well as continued online convention participation have helped keep him abreast of changes to the community he so loves. His extensive collection of fantasy miniatures continues to grow, as does his array of museum replica ancient and medieval weapons and armor.
DJB is happily supported in his endeavors by his long time partner, a rapscallion dog and an oddly behaved cat. His free time is spent gardening, watching horror movies as well as sports, and reading. He can typically be found on his front patio enjoying his gardens and typing away on his laptop. He has extensive plans to continue relating tales of Maera in his attempt to bring his readers joy, and in continued service of the Aeglain.
