Awale Kullane is a Somali diplomat, writer, and strategist with nearly 17 years of experience in international affairs and public service. He has represented Somalia as Ambassador to China and Sweden, served as Alternate Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, and served as Chargé d’Affaires in Washington, D.C.
At home, he served as Chief of Staff and Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister of Somalia, where he helped shape national policy and strengthen coordination at the highest levels of government.
He currently leads IGAD’s regional Food Security, Nutrition and Resilience Analysis Hub (IFRAH) in Nairobi, where he supports governments across the Horn of Africa in building systems to anticipate and respond to food and climate crises.
Awale holds a Master’s degree in Organisational Leadership, alongside a postgraduate diploma in public administration and a postgraduate diploma in leadership, as well as postgraduate certificates in strategic management. He is also a certified teacher and a Chartered Manager (CMgr MCMI), with a strong foundation in institutional development and executive leadership.
His first book, Walk Below Your Feet, is a reflection on silent power, influence, and the art of leading with intention. Written with the perspective of a diplomat and the voice of a thinker, it is a personal offering to a continent still shaping its voice in global affairs.
Awale lives in Nairobi and works across Africa, always believing that the most meaningful influence often happens quietly, behind the scenes.
