Arch/Dr. Winnie Nnakwe is a young Nigerian who migrated to the United States after graduating from high school. Though, she initially struggled academically due to the academic setback of the Biafra war, she later blossomed to become one of the top students in her class. Her interest in education grew to become a love of learning.
Arch/Dr. Winnie found God early and allowed God to direct her path. The young woman grew in academics, beauty and poise. She became a mentor, role model and a leader at an early age. Leading by example and always willing to help anyone in need.
Along the way, she developed the ability to weave her way through society where she encountered society’s expectations of a woman, norms and limitations. By the grace of God, Arch/Dr. Winnie continued her quest for knowledge in a foreign land bridging two cultures (Nigerian and American) and three professions and careers (Architecture, Business and Education) to literacy’s true freedom.
Arch/Dr. Winnie had some good reasons to turn away from literacy and education but found a way to embrace literacy early in life, and is fortunate to follow literacy to the liberation, fulfilment and freedom literacy and education brings. Arch/Dr. Winnie is poised to inspire those who may have been on the education fence for one reason or the other to understand that “learning is liberating but illiteracy is debilitating and incapacitating!”
