Annemarie Marek grew up in Texas, moved East, then back home, and gratefully landed in Santa Fe, New Mexico a decade ago. Inspired by the landscape and wildlife of the high desert, she wrote Calming the Wilderness to explore the interrelationship between human nature and the natural world. Her poetry collection was recognized by Women Writing the West as a finalist for The Willa Literary Award in poetry in 2020.
