The author known as Alystair West, practiced law in Houston, TX, before responding to God’s call to enter full-time ministry. As an attorney, he practiced corporate, securities, banking, and insurance law and has served on the board of directors of a savings bank and non-profit organizations over the years. In 1991, he left his law practice to attend seminary. More recently, he served as Counsel to a San Antonio law firm.
From 1994 through April 2017, West served in two pastorates near Memphis, Tennessee. He served for five years as Pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Brownsville, TN, and for eighteen years as Pastor of Advent Presbyterian Church, Cordova, TN, a suburb of Memphis. Most recently, West served as Team Coach, Session Moderator, and Transitional Pastor of Bay Presbyterian Church in Bay Village, OH, from October 2017 through February 2019.
In addition to the novels, Marshland (2023) and Peace at Battle Mountain (2024), West is the author under his own name of Centered Living/Centered Leading: The Way of Light and Love (2010), Path of Life: Wisdom Literature for Christ-Followers (2014), Salt & Light: Everyday Discipleship (2016), Crisis of Discipleship: Renewing the Art of Relational Disciple-Making (2022, 2024), and Illumined by WIsdom and Love (2024). He and his wife wrote a discipleship course, the Salt & Light study, together.
