"There are so many things I enjoyed about this story. First, the cover is a wonderful representation of the level of fantasy, the target audience, and the type of story that is inside. Great artistic rendering for this book. Next, I want to appreciate the respectful and imaginative use of the cultural aspects that inform this fantasy story. It’s really interesting to have that layer of culture, tradition, and influence along with the more magical elements that are put together in such a unique way.

I learned a lot reading this and always appreciate when a book can be enjoyable and informative. The adventure in this story is quite clever and I appreciated the attention to world-building details as well as plot and character structures. This is a great book for middle-grade readers interested in fantasy and I think it is written well for that target audience.

The other thing to mention as excellent is how the Spanish was blended into the story so well. Sometimes that transition to other languages in books can be clunky or difficult to read, and I think this book managed to get it right. I would love to see this as a series for younger readers and think the way it blends history, cultures, and fantasy is really something special.
