Description

Katherine Siles is a bright young chemistry major at a local college. At 19, the tall brunette with almond colored eyes is smart, tough, and possesses just the right amount of silly when she wants to be. She also doesn't fit into any of the traditional cliques like the goths, nerds, jocks or overdressed princesses. Katherine is an independent woman, her own woman. Her chemistry final requires her to extend the short life of the common house fly through the use of chemistry.

Enter Charles Cruz, her ex-boyfriend. When Katharine refuses to consider reconciliation, Charles sabotages her experiment by killing off her tiny winged subject with a toxic virus, stolen from the school's lab. Unfortunately, it backfires. and Katherine's experiment goes horribly wrong when it creates a Zombie Fly.  And the more it eats, the larger it grows. The campus is the perfect feeding ground for its veracious appetite, eating one student after another with Katherine next on its menu...

That is until a nerdy entomology student name Richard Youlin offers to help her end the flesh-eating monsters reign of terror.

RAY
Zombie Fly Zombie Fly is a short sharp work of horror penned for young adult audiences and was written by author Ray Cecire. Blending an unusual combination of horror and romantic comedy genres, this delightfully dark book follows the exploits of Katherine Siles, a nineteen-year-old chemistry student with a bright and promising future ahead. Katherine is no stranger to drama, so when her ex-boyfriend Charles Cruz shows up, it’s clear there will be trouble as she turns him down again. Charles sabotages a potent experiment to teach her a lesson but, in turn, he ends up creating a monster that just keeps growing and growing. All may be lost unless a heroic nerd can step in and save the day. Author Ray Cecire has a delightful sense of wry humor, pathos and a flair for adding moments of light to his dark tale. Set in the realm of a B-movie style horror monster, but with far better characters and storyline, this fun romp is highly suited to its YA audience for its sharp plotting, quick scene changes and clever use of suspense and surprise. The rom-com plot at the center emerges a little later and is very welcome and adorable to witness, particularly in the dialogue and narrative work that gets us closer to the characters. As far as flesh-eating monsters go, the titular fly sure is deadly and dead fun. Overall, Zombie Fly comes highly recommended for YA readers seeking a thrilling horror romp with plenty of laughs.
