Excellent and Fun Read When my daughters and I began this book, I knew we would enjoy it, but it exceeded our expectations in that it was equally as fun as it was thought provoking. It was written in a way that was very engaging and led to many discussions. The two little “tour guides,” Ziggy and Maverick, lead the kids through all the things going on in a community — certain aspects of daily life kids may not otherwise reflect on. They point out the people who make everyday life run smoothly. My daughters were genuinely amazed to realize how many “hidden heroes” are around them all the time. That realization made it feel within reach for them to also someday fill these roles within their own communities. What we enjoyed most is that the book weaves in real-life educational lessons about how policies shape so many different things, while the dogs keep things silly and fun. For two girls who are both empowered and interested in how the world works, as well as dog lovers, it was a perfect fit. By the end, the book had them talking about what they would change or improve in our community. Anything that gets kids thinking about how to make the world better and make communities a safe place for everyone, is so important. This book is an absolutely enjoyable read! The main characters are relatable and ask important questions about every day activities. The book explains the “why” of policies that affect children as well as adults.
