Born in Adelaide, South Australia, Linda Summer wrote her first words when she was three years old and has loved 'playing with words' ever since. At four years old, Linda made her television debut on ‘Romper Room School' and prides herself on being a good 'Do Bee' at all times.
Linda holds diplomas in Journalism, Creative Writing, Book Editing and Publishing. Her career began in television where she worked as a publicist and promotions producer. She later moved to Sydney and continued working in the television industry for several years. She became so deft at making mediocrity look good that she promised to one day write a screenplay and see how she fared.
Linda eventually moved on from the television industry and began carving out a freelance writing career. She wrote a wildly imaginative children's book called 'Zazoo Zazoo' which became 'book of the week' at a friend's primary school but was rejected by several Australian publishers. She also undertook a drama course with the Darlinghurst Theatre Group, and short film/documentary courses at the Sydney Community College which culminated in winning first prize for 'Retrospect' at Sydney’s 15/15 Film Festival.
Linda's creative pursuits were shelved when she returned to Adelaide in the early 2000's and began working in a consuming job. Inspired by the writings of Dr Wayne Dyer, and a particular quote: ‘Don’t die with the music still in you,’ Linda took extended leave from her day job in September 2012, allowing herself time to heal, meditate, rejuvenate and redefine her life’s purpose.
She studied screenwriting via various resources including the Jacob Krueger Studio in NYC, brushed up on her creative writing skills and eventually found herself ‘playing with words’ once again.
2013, a friend asked if she could read her seven year old grandson ‘Zazoo Zazoo.’ Linda hunted for the manuscript in her cupboard full of writing, dusted it off and laughed out loud when she read it again. If ever there was a manuscript in need of a major rewrite, this was it! The grandson encouraged Linda to turn ‘Zazoo Zazoo’ into a book.
Linda intends to publish more imaginative children's stories and would love to see children of all ages embrace the creative concept of ‘playing with words’ and create their own imaginative stories to share with the world.
