Overview
A young girl tries to reconcile a childhood split between an idyllic family compound in upstate New York and the dangerous newly formed country of Tanzania in East Africa during the 1960s.
Description
Lions and snakes, ships and cities, rich mountain forests, crowded markets places, hurricanes, droughts, witches, terrorists, and the strength of human bonds. All just a part of growing up for one little girl. "Worlds Away" is the compelling tale of a childhood split between East Africa and the United States during the early 1960s. An American girl must find a balance between two homes that could not be more different Her endless curiosity and search for answers lead the reader through a series of remarkable experiences that paint the portrait of a turbulent time and an exotic land. "Worlds Away" brings to life a period of global change, the struggles of an emerging country, and the conflicting emotions of a growing child.
About the author
Jean was raised in a family of teachers and journalists so she learned to speak her thoughts at an early age. She is an avid naturalist and explorer with an eager interest in virtually anything that comes along. If she were to sum up her favorite things they would be her family, nature, farming, art, teaching, and anything to do with horses. Jean is always looking for interesting people to listen to, things to learn about and new things to try She has been an elementary school teacher for 18 years and she enjoys the many challenges that public education presents and the daily opportunity to share a sense of wonder with her students. Jean was born in Huntington, on Long Island but she has traveled far and wide so it is impossible to say that she is "from" any one place. She lives in upstate New York where she rides her horse almost every day and spends as much time as possible outdoors. .
