Why They Hate Us presents a compelling study of Ndigbo – norms, cultures and ‘Igbosyncracies’. Born out of the author’s desire to understand the widespread negative perception of Ndigbo within and outside of Nigeria, this book argues that Igbos have themselves contributed to creating and fostering this image. Having lived in several regions across Nigeria, and now abroad, the author capitalizes on his experience and shares succinctly the outsider’s view of Ndigbo, which is often negative. This thought-provoking book challenges Ndigbo – and, indeed, people of all races and cultures – to redefine themselves by treading a worthy path and leaving a legacy that humanity can be proud of.

Obi Ogbuagu was born in Sabon Gari, Kano, in 1965. He attended Methodist Transferred Primary School (now Suka Special Primary School) Kano and Federal Government College Ikot-Ekpene. He holds a B.Sc. (Hons) in Agriculture, an M.Sc. in Agronomy and a D.Phil. in Community Development from the University of Ibadan. He also has a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho. He has over 20 years of professional experience in agriculture, private sector banking, rural and community development, international development, public/private sector interagency collaboration, consulting and core public sector service. As an agricultural and community development professional, he lends technical support, in collaboration with other stakeholders, in advocating for the growth and development of environmentally sustainable agribusinesses and commercial enterprises. Obi lives in California and is married with children. Why They Hate Us is his debut book.
