Overview

This book was an original story written for Rev. Janice's two grandchildren, and other children in her family; it’s full of joy, happiness and good works. King Alfred is a happy man who is married to Queen Rosamund; he wanted to find a way to be with his people, and get to know them, in an ordinary way so that he could do some good works and help people; the king wants to get on their level so that they don’t look at him as a king all the time.

King Alfred wants to be an ordinary person some of the time, but he realizes that he still had his kingly duties to perform; he enjoys having a day off from being king sometimes, when nobody knows who he really is. He has spent his whole life as a prince and then became king and he felt he had missed out on an ordinary life. He decides to disguise himself and get out of the castle; he gets to know his people, do some good work and help them; everyone thinks he is a very kind man called Alf.

Compelling Read I really enjoyed this book; I read it in two days; I couldn't put it down. I loved the writing style and I wanted to find out about where or what the king did next. It really is a very good book for adults, as well as children. I wondered if Bob would ever recognise the king - you will have to buy your won book to find out. I look forward to the next book and will be highly recommending this book to friends with, or without children Read more

When the King Didn't Wear His Crown I sent this book to my granddaughter as one of her gifts for her 9th birthday. She is an avid reader and since I read the book first I was sure she would enjoy the book. With all the electronic things she received she sat down the next day and read the book in one sitting. She loved the story. She said when the king would take off his crown and go to the garden it reminded her of her grandfather who had a large garden and she would walk down with him to look over the vegetables. That made me happy to know she still remembers him. I am going to send one to my niece's daughter who is going to be 3 years old. I can picture her mom or dad reading the book to her. Looking forward to the next book Reverend Janice will publish. Read more

when the king didnt wear his crown I loved that it kept you wanting to know what was coming up next. I could imagine how he felt and to be able to just "take off your crown" to go about and not be known must feel amazing sometimes. Glad to see he was supported by his lovely wife. Good story line and looking forward to more. Read more

When the King Didn't Wear His Crown Delighted to receive my book this week. Also pleasantly surprised that it was longer than I expected- a chapter book of the king's adventures rather than the shorter story book I expected. The author has touched on the joy of the simple things in life. Beautiful illustrations, too. Can't wait to have the little ones in my family snuggle in my lap as we read the adventures together! I hope there are more stories to come, perhaps the king will venture into the village or other countries in the next book! Read more
