What Happened?

By Jamee Wetzel

Overview

"What Happened?" is a gentle starting place for children to learn about, and talk about, an inevitable part of life. This book introduces children to some of the many things people experience when someone they know dies. Whether a child has experienced a loss themselves, or they know someone who has, this book will help the adults in their lives answer some of their many questions and point them positively towards the healing process.

What Happened? by Jamee Wetzel is not only an excellent young children’s book, it also is a most helpful resource for parents and educators to discuss the death of a child’s loved one with the affected youngster.  From a child’s viewpoint, What Happened? is engaging and gently yet directly honest about how death can stir a host of confusing questions and emotions.  For adults, What Happened? offers not only the compelling story of Seth, but the book also features conversation focus questions and additional resources that can guide sensitive discussions.

As a career educator, I strongly, and without reservation, recommend that Jamee Wetzel’s What Happened? is an absolute must have for parents and an essential resource for all preschool/elementary school children’s and professional libraries.  Additionally, family/child counselors will also find What Happened? a most valuable tool.

When we talk about our feelings they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary."
