Description

What can be said about recovery that hasn't already been said a thousand times in every Twelve Step program? Well, Bob W. thinks there is plenty left to be said. In his first book "My Mind's Fingers," the author trudged along the well-worn path to recovery in the form of poems; prose; essays; and personal stories of desperation, isolation, fear, and emotional pain. In his latest book, "Weekly Meditations for a Daily Reprieve," Bob W. repeats the same format using his poetic insights, witty wordplay, and often employing his harsh spot-on view of the realities of life as a recovering person seeking a spiritual reckoning for the past. Along with the meditations contained on the pages of this book - which are based on his personal observations about love, life, relationships, sobriety, and spirituality - Bob W. has created a fresh batch of well-crafted offerings in the form of poems, prose, and essays, bringing forth quotes from the past to enlighten us all. After many years of trial-and-error living in a world fraught with daily battles against the mind, body, and spirit, the author began to seek a degree of humility, and offered himself up to the spiritual principles of the program that literally saved his life. Every morning brings a new day, and every day will bring new challenges. Each week, month, and year we will all be faced with decisions to be made, and the author hopes that his simple, yet insightful Daily Reprieves will help guide you through the onslaught of internal and external forces by quieting the stormy emotions that plague us all. Bob W. incorporates his spiritual messages gleaned from various religious disciplines and combines them with an unwavering adherence to the principles of recovery. Presented here in easy-to-read companion pieces along with his weekly and daily meditations, he hopes that others will incorporate them into their walk along the path to serenity… just as he continues to do. Enjoy this combination of poetry and prose in the true essence of recovery and spirituality. May you find peace of mind as you discover one of the undisputed truths about the basis for our fears... "It All Begins Within."

About the author

It all began with a simple poem he had written, scribbled on a scrap of notebook paper, and read aloud at a meeting when afterward someone approached him and requested a copy of what he had read. Subsequently as time went on he began getting requests to read more of his writings aloud, and soon others began asking for copies of his pieces. These experiences encouraged him, and eventually his writing began to take shape in the form of poems, prose, and short essays on the principles of recovery. From this, he was inspired to write longer narratives on every aspect of his journey along the path of sobriety and spirituality. As his writing skills developed, so too did his skill as a public speaker, and today his sought-after speaking engagements throughout the region are known for their wisdom, wit, and his innate ability to move an audience. During his talks Bob W integrates spiritual teachings from various faiths while highlighting the program of recovery with quotes from his writings, passages from literature on addiction and alcoholism, along with solid age-old philosophical principles.

With an interesting life history as a musician, skilled craftsman, and a lover of art, history, and philosophy, Bob lends his extensive knowledge to others by doing service in any number of ways; just ask his friends, relatives, recovering addicts or alcoholics about the many gifts of service he has given to them over the years, and they will tell you he lives the program of recovery with a deep conviction of love for others. This conviction of being of service to others has led him to expand his outreach and he currently serves as spiritual advisor to A.F.A.R. (A Future After Rehab), a local non-profit organization offering transitional sober-living housing in SouthernNew Jersey, where he sits on the board of directors. Today Bob resides right back in the very house he was raised in - with his wife Laura and their dog - maintaining his working-class roots. So, yes, you can go home again!

Bob W's first book of prose and poetry "My Mind's Fingers" was published in 2023 and has received great reviews exceeding all expectations. It's success further encouraged him to continue on the path he has chosen as a writer, and this new volume of works incorporates weekly and daily meditations, principles of recovery, and more insightful poems, prose, and essays on living life one day at a time. With the guidance of a Higher Power and his devotion to prayer and meditation, Bob has come to believe in a newfound freedom; a spiritual life based on the power of sobriety, spirituality, and service.
