It all began with a simple poem he had written, scribbled on a scrap of notebook paper, and read aloud at a meeting when afterward someone approached him and requested a copy of what he had read. Subsequently as time went on he began getting requests to read more of his writings aloud, and soon others began asking for copies of his pieces. These experiences encouraged him, and eventually his writing began to take shape in the form of poems, prose, and short essays on the principles of recovery. From this, he was inspired to write longer narratives on every aspect of his journey along the path of sobriety and spirituality. As his writing skills developed, so too did his skill as a public speaker, and today his sought-after speaking engagements throughout the region are known for their wisdom, wit, and his innate ability to move an audience. During his talks Bob W integrates spiritual teachings from various faiths while highlighting the program of recovery with quotes from his writings, passages from literature on addiction and alcoholism, along with solid age-old philosophical principles.
With an interesting life history as a musician, skilled craftsman, and a lover of art, history, and philosophy, Bob lends his extensive knowledge to others by doing service in any number of ways; just ask his friends, relatives, recovering addicts or alcoholics about the many gifts of service he has given to them over the years, and they will tell you he lives the program of recovery with a deep conviction of love for others. This conviction of being of service to others has led him to expand his outreach and he currently serves as spiritual advisor to A.F.A.R. (A Future After Rehab), a local non-profit organization offering transitional sober-living housing in SouthernNew Jersey, where he sits on the board of directors. Today Bob resides right back in the very house he was raised in - with his wife Laura and their dog - maintaining his working-class roots. So, yes, you can go home again!
Bob W's first book of prose and poetry "My Mind's Fingers" was published in 2023 and has received great reviews exceeding all expectations. It's success further encouraged him to continue on the path he has chosen as a writer, and this new volume of works incorporates weekly and daily meditations, principles of recovery, and more insightful poems, prose, and essays on living life one day at a time. With the guidance of a Higher Power and his devotion to prayer and meditation, Bob has come to believe in a newfound freedom; a spiritual life based on the power of sobriety, spirituality, and service.
