Description
“Waiting for the Real World to Catch Up” is the story of Scottrick, a crazed inventor, who goes to extreme lengths to find success. In the book, he champions one spurious idea after another and becomes enraged when his million-dollar idea for a newfangled colostomy bag is snatched away by greedy and jealous co-workers. A spiteful boss fires him, but his patent lives on and is the subject of a costly infringement suit. The company desperately needs his help, but can they get cooperation from a deep-sixed Scottrick? After his corporate “experience,” Scottrick bungles through a series of misadventures, including making a wacky record album and trying to be a truck driver, and is finally reduced to working alongside actress wannabe Tina Fey at the YMCA. Her later success inspires him to achieve fifteen seconds of fame by writing a book in the obscure field of kitchen collectibles. But can this land him in the hot seat on “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?” “Waiting for the Real World to Catch Up” is a humorous take on the undefeatable American spirit, with special celebrity cameos by Tina Fey, Meredith Vieira, Martha Stewart, and others!
About the author
Brian S. Alexander grew up in Michigan City, the middle kid in a boisterous family of eight. He is graduate of Purdue University with a BSE degree in general engineering and also a graduate of the Illinois Institute of Technology with a Masters degree in Architecture. He currently resides in Evanston, Il, a short jog from the windy Lake Michigan shoreline. An avid inventor and musician in college, he was profiled in the school paper with an article about one of his off-beat products - Clothing for Telephones! Unlike Alexander Graham Bell, this breakthrough did not make him rich or famous. He later was awarded three patents, one for a baton twirling doll – which made him no money – and two for very successful products – which also made him no money. In the 1990’s he became a dedicated collector when he set out to redo his home in the style of the 1950s. The goal was to make it look like James Dean just left on September 30, 1955 and he succeeded! This endeavor led to his first book, Spiffy Kitchen Collectibles, published in 2003. Followed by a second book, Atomic Kitchen, published in 2004, and a collector's field guide Kitschy Kitchen Collectibles published in 2005. These books are in full color and appeal to nostalgia and vintage kitchen fans. They have sold well and actually made him money. He has been profiled in USA Today, Antique Week, Cooking Light, The Wisconsin State Journal, Eric Zorn's blog and the Tempo section of the Chicago Tribune, Pioneer Press, Atomic Ranch, The Antique Trader, and The Orlando Sentinel. He has also been on National Public Radio, and seen on WTTW’s Chicago Tonight, Chicago WGN-TV’s Early morning news (Twice!), Chicago ABC 7 News at 11:00 AM, Chicago CBS 2 News, and was a runner-up in a barbeque contest on Live with Regis and Kelly. He even appeared on Who Wants to be a Millionaire? - for five seconds! He has met and had heart-felt twenty second talks with celebrities including: Hillary Clinton, Bob Hope, Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter, Charles Osgood, Dick Clark, Regis Philbin, Martha Stewart, Rachel Ray, and even Don Ameche many years ago! He once worked alongside Tina Fey for about eight months when she was a young wannabe actress trying to break into the Chicago theatre scene. She went on to phenomenal success and good fortune - but he didn’t! His luck turned around with the publication of his books and subsequent media appearances. Martha Stewart even sent him a thank you letter from prison after receiving copies! His new book, Waiting for the Real World to Catch Up" is a humorous, off-beat novel with real life parallels, "based on a not so true story," It has oodles of fun things for readers, and a future printed edition will have an actual palyable board game on the back cover.
