About The Author

Arlene Pinpin Stevens is a Filipino martial arts (FMA) instructor with a background in biological science, health science, and education. In 2011, she started her apprenticeship under the direction of "The Blade Master" himself, Grandtuhon Leopoldo T. Gaje, Jr.

Born and raised in the Philippines, the movements and principles of Kali have been a part of her day-to-day life. She developed a holistic teaching approach that breaks down complex techniques to achieve exactness and economy of motion. She established a training group called Kaluyugan de Palares in the State of Maryland and launched Train Pekiti Classroom, an asynchronous online class. In 2018, she reached an important milestone of being the first female Tuhon (Master instructor) under the Pekiti Tirsia Kali combat blade fighting system.

“ When Facing severe challenges, your mind is normally at its sharpest “ -Myles Munroe I am a new student in the combat system ;Pekiti Tersia Kali. I have a fair amount of personal experience and training in different forms of combat that has lacked the simplicity and value of the philosophy , culture values, traditions and ideologies behind A certain system. I AM , a firm believer that “:When purpose is not known, abuse is inevitable” and The greatest tragedy in life is not death, but a life without a purpose. I have felt that a lot of my training in the past, has lacked the “ why “ behind a certain technical defense tactic , lacked realistic training against modern weaponry and dangerous encounters that I have personally faced to this day Therefore , after reading much of this companion book , Arlene Stevens not only solidifies the “ Why “ behind Pekiti Tersia Kali, but provides a visually superb and colorful draftsmanship of this system in her first “ living document “ . I consider myself a visual learner and Arlene Steven’s book has helped me to gain a better understanding of the the complexity and geometry of the movements going forward in my training . As I continue in this new learning path, I would encourage any new or advanced practitioner to purchase this companion book to reinforce what you already know or are gaining, , Its not just a book to read , but a necessary tool in my opinion.
