Overview
The debut of the first female pitcher in the big leagues is cloaked in mystery. Hailed as a hero to girls of all ages, her first appearance on the mound stuns the hometown crowd and the world, fueling a media frenzy that angles to banish her from baseball. She is soon made a pariah by a twisted "woke" society and a press wielding hatchets. The story's narrator, an old sportswriter, shares a critical view of the national pastime, blending his love of curveballs and curvy women in this seductive tale of improbable victory, sex and murder.
Description
The stage for this murder mystery is set with the improbable debut of the first female pitcher in Major League Baseball. The narrator, Frank Barr, is a veteran sports writer and baseball traditionalist longing for the old glory days of the game. On assignment from Baseball's Commissioner, Frank watches a little girl from the South, Greta Reich, take on the New York Yankees. Greta receives a standing ovation from the hometown crowd, but not everyone is cheering. Initially hailed as a hero to girls of all ages, her flamboyant presence on the mound and her outspoken nature fuels a media frenzy dead set on banishing her from baseball.
About the author
The author has been the editor of a leading American magazine for over four decades. At the age of five, he would dictate fantastic, adventure stories to his mother, who waited upon each word at her typewriter. He grew up thinking, writing was man's greatest profession. At the age of nineteen he wrote his first novel. By the age of twenty-six, he had completed three novels, but never tried to get them published, not believing yet he had mastered his writing style. Later in his life he tried again at the art form of the novel. Alas, he believed in his telling of Untouchable. He is currently at work on two more novels, Cold Heart, and Forever. A.T. Armada is his pen name.
