Small town life in Pleasant Bay, NC loses its charm for aspiring, young actress Mikie Davenport after a mysterious fever, murder, and cancer rob her of the family she loves. When she relocates to Knoxville to study theater at the University of Tennessee, Mikie discovers a new home and a new life in an old Victorian house shared by four other tenants, kindred spirits, each unique in their own special way with their own dreams and aspirations, trials and tribulations. Life is good again until a brutal hate crime challenges the very fabric of their existence. In the aftermath of this recent tragedy, the roommates at 2125 Highland Drive desperately fight for their lives and their happiness as they are put to the ultimate test. As Mike adapts to her new home and life, she cannot help but marvel about the delicate balance of life. There is a certain flow to it, but it also has its undertow waiting to pull you down at any opportunity, and all anyone can do is try to stay afloat. Fortunately, she is a strong swimmer, and despite everything that happens in her life, Mikie blossoms into a vibrant and successful young woman as she finds her place in the world she has chosen to live.
