Description

This short story collection is about students in eighth grade through high school and the first year of college. The topics include peer pressure, making new friends and going on several adventures. Several stories tell about neurodivergent students Sylvia and Mark finding their path in their school settings. Teen pregnancy is mentioned in the "Diaper Debacle" and in another story, a suburban girl deals with subtle racism and challenges herself to confront it. Gifted and talented students Elias and Molly experience different problems in school, but also learn uniquely. Tom has to deal with extreme bullying in his new school. In another story, suicide is briefly addressed with no graphic details involving a family dealing with economic recession and job loss. Finally, Milly finds a new friend volunteering at a local animal shelter. Suitable for ages in middle grades through high school and above. Ages 12-18+ (a few mild swear words) Some difficult topics with humor & satisfying resolutions.

About The Author

Alma Ann Jay is one of my alter egos because when I started writing, I was working for a school district where I felt I couldn't reveal my identity because my children attended that school district that was very conservative in some ways regarding teachers. (also JJ Dayton & Jude Reyes) I have been a teacher (students aged 5-65), assistant principal, central office administrator, academic coordinator and farmer as well as a mother and grandmother while living in three states. I prefer living on a farm with all sorts of farm animals, especially horses. I write about people and places that I know. My hobbies are writing, reading, quilting, spinning alpaca fiber into yarn. Baby quilts are my favorites and I enjoy quilting them on my longarm quilting machine for Project Linus charity.. Gardening: flowers and veggies is another past time I do for fun.
