About the author
Dr. Gerald D. Murray was born in Louisville, KY and grew up in Muscle Shoals, AL. There he developed a love for country music while growing up with his uncle who today is still a walking encyclopedia of country music.
In the 70's, Gerald became one of Hank Williams, Jr's rowdy friends touring the countryside together. All the while, Gerald was an astute student learning all the could from Hank's manager at the time, J.R. Smith.
Although Gerald never managed Hank Williams, Jr., an agreement was reached between Gerald, Hank Jr., and his manager, J.R. Smith for Gerald to take over management of Hank within a sixty day period. Fate played its role during this sixty days and Hank had his first number one hit in five years since, "Pride's Not Hard To Swallow." This caused J.R. to keep Hank another nine years.
This did, however, open another door and at the recommendation of J.R. Smith, Gerald took the reins of George Jones' career, whom he managed from 1981-1983.
For the next several years, Gerald spent time with his friend who had worked on the road with the George Jones show. That friend's name being Vern Gosdin. During this time Gerald continued his education graduating from the University of North Alabama (Florence, AL) in 1993 and 1996. In 2000, Gerald graduated from NSU University (Ft. Lauderdale, FL), earning a Doctorate in Business Administration and graduating near the top of his class. Later that year, Gerald returned to the national spotlight when he signed a management agreement with his friend, the legendary, Vern Gosdin. Since then he has taken the Vern Gosdin show coast to coast. Most recently, seeing Vern inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame.
Dr. Murray has the background and the roster that has and will continue to make waves in the country music industry. Member of the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music.
