Description
Aging is a natural process of life that affects all humans, and healthy aging is achievable, particularly through integrating the best of Eastern and Western medicine. Traditional Chinese Medicine has a long history in Asian countries, which have antiaging properties and could intervene age-related disorders to enhance quality of life and health in the elderly in China. The book contains 19 chapters. The first chapter describes the anti-aging 18 types of common medicines from the "Shen Nong Ben Cao" that combat age-related disorders, including a description of research on these medicines and a simple introduction to the theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Importantly, Chinese herbs introduced in this book is well-known, and the chemical components have been determined, which have not been contaminated with toxic compounds, heavy metals, pesticides, and microorganisms and may have serious side effects. These Chinese herbs have been widely used in China for intervention of anti-aging and age-related disease. We wish this book will facilitate progress toward healthy aging solutions and successful interventions.
About the author
Yumin Luo is a Professor of Neurology at Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University and Vice director of Institute of Cerebrovascular Diseases Research of Capital Medical University; Director of Cerebrovascular Diseases Research Lab of Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University; Besides, Dr. Luo also services a chair of Neurology specialized committee of Beijing Association of traditional Chinese medicine and Western Medicine. Dr. Luo graduated from China Medical University in 1989; and obtained Doctoral Degree from Medical Center of Fudan University (Shanghai Medical University) in 1999, where she also served as Vice Professor in Department of Neurology in Huashan Hospital. Then, she worked University of Pittsburgh Medical Center as a visiting scholar from 1998 to 2006. In 2006, she joined the Institute of Cerebrovascular Disease Research of Xuanwu Hospital as a full Professor. Yumin Luo is a neurologist and has been engaged in the research of aging and age- related diseases for nearly 30 years. She received her traditional Chinese medicine training in Guang An Men Hospital of Chinese Academy of Chinese medicine from 2007 to 2009. Since then, she has been engaged in the research of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine intervening aging and age-related diseases. Dr. Luo mainly works on the neurobiology of cerebrovascular diseases (CVD), with the aim to identify new pharmacological targets. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Progress in Neurobiology, Stroke, Experimental of Neurology, Aging and Diseases, CNS Neuroscience & Therapeutics. She also published several books including "Research Methodology of Cerebrovascular Diseases", "Rational use of traditional Chinese medicine injection in the treatment of nervous system diseases", and "Natural herbs bring forth hundred years old life".
