Description

There’s a line from “Auntie Mame” which resonates with me: “Life is a banquet and most poor souls are starving.” I have enjoyed participating in the smorgasbord of life’s offerings. That’s perhaps because I’m of Scandinavian descent.

About The Author

Joan Munsey Speare didn’t set out to write a memoir when she began taking writing classes. A longtime contributor to trade publications and arts organization publicity, she found herself drawn to telling the deeper story—one of overcoming a difficult childhood and not just surviving, but thriving. Her hope is that by sharing her journey, others may find encouragement and strength in their own.
Looking back, Joan recognizes a life filled with rich experiences and personal accomplishments. In adulthood she studied voice and performed in community theater and choral societies. In retirement, she became an accomplished oil painter. Her enduring optimism and sense of humor have carried her through life’s highs and lows.
Originally from Massachusetts, Joan now lives in New Jersey. Her greatest pride lies in raising her two children: a son who turned his passion for motorcycles into a successful business, and a daughter who followed her dreams into a career as a singer, dancer, and actress.
