to dust

A modern murder-mystery fairy tale for grown-ups

By Jon Fleshman

Overview

to dust is a modern adult murder-mystery fairly tale that calls attention to the real crime of sex trafficking and the belief in a divine judge. A tough Black female detective galvanizes three retirees who take immediate action that links them to missing persons and possible murders. The tale treads lightly on God's prerogative as judge and executioner, an alternative to in-ground burial, a creation myth, interfaith tendencies and belief in a loving, just and wrathful Creator.

Description

A tough Black female cop in a modern adult murder-mystery fairy tale that ties sex-traffickers and religious crusaders to an ancient Moroccan legend. Detective Swift's investigation galvanizes three compassionate retirees. But how on earth can these ordinary nursing home residents halt sex-traffickers dead in their tracks? Is it wishful thinking that prayer can stop crimes, save victims from psychopaths, protect the weak and rain down justice? What kind of faith does it take to channel a plea for instant intercession on a cosmic wavelength? They need a powerful ally to match their sense of urgency with immediate action. Perhaps Detective Sunny Swift – the officer with a mean uppercut, color-conscious mom and buggy white boyfriend – will be able to put a dent in the local sexual exploitation market; or must the nursing-home crusaders appeal to a higher authority with a longer history and a global reach? The answer looks very strange when it crosses international datelines and bumps into foreign archaeologists and ancient legends.
