Description
This book—which in part sprang forth directly from client requests—is meant to communicate vital information that can help you, and your loved ones, live a better, richer, happier, and more productive life. So while we will cover investing, it won’t just be about investing in stocks, bonds, and land, but about investing in yourself as well. And while we will cover the realities and downsides of having to deal with other people, we will also consider that which has made America the greatest country in the history of the world. Our country is indeed exceptional, but this is not a birthright, nor is it guaranteed to last. The most important investment you’ll ever make is clearly in yourself—that is, in you personally, in your relevant skill-sets and knowledge, in your family, and in whatever helps you accumulate wisdom. Education is important, but wisdom is more important, and they are often not the same thing. This means that when you are evaluating whether to spend time and money on getting an advanced degree versus getting more real-world wisdom, you need to see things from the perspective of wisdom first so you can tell what would be more valuable and more productive for you.
About the author
With over three decades of industry experience, Fred Hanish helps a select group of successful families make wise decisions with their resources. He founded Hanish Investment Partners in 2007 and has steadily grown the firm by selecting one successful family at a time. Fred builds expert teams—including portfolio managers, CPAs, private client attorneys, and insured risk specialists—to add significant value to each client family, and he works closely with each family’s professional advisors to offer a coordinated Second Opinion Service. Before founding his own lifestyle investment boutique, Fred was a former managing director of Russell Investments. His 15 years with Russell included serving as a global operating committee member when Russell managed more than $250 billion in assets. Fred earned his BA in business administration, economics core, from St. John’s University in Minnesota. There, Fred began his work in finance by researching investments for his corporate finance professor, who also happened to manage the university’s endowment portfolio. Fred has served on numerous investment committees and several boards, including the nonprofit boards of his children’s school and his church. He has also written a foreword for the book The Wealth Management Edge: Unlocking the Wealth-Building Secrets of America’s Most Successful Affluent Families (2012). When vacationing, Fred enjoys traveling and the outdoors with his family; he is a fisherman and an avid North American big-game archery hunter.
