About the author
Thomas Bitnar, FAIA, Doc.Dipl.Ing.Ak.Arch, CKA, LEED AP BD+C is principal of Bitnar Architects with offices in Prague, New York, and Bozeman, Montana. Born and educated in the historic environment of Czechoslovakia, Thomas Bitnar has almost fifty years of extensive experience in architecture and urban design, with a broad range of acclaimed projects in Europe and the United States. Over the last thirty years, he has also been an international architecture educator and has lectured extensively in the U.S. and abroad. Thomas Bitnar is also an accomplished artist with a lifelong passion for painting and drawing. He is currently preparing a new publication of his artwork.
He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and past-president of the AIA Continental Europe chapter. He is also a long-time member of the Czech Chamber of Architects and the U.S. Green Building Council. He holds master's degrees in architecture from The Prague Technical University (CVUT) Faculty of Architecture and Town Planning and the Academy of Fine Arts Prague, and a master of science degree in real estate development from Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation.
