About the author
Although physically birthed in a small suburb of northern New Jersey in 1979, the author Rez Blackman was born October 15, 2011, the day he was released from Southwood Correctional Institution of southern New Jersey. Life experience and self-discovery eventually led him to his current life as a self-published author and publisher.
Rez was raised by a single mother in a religious household along with his two older siblings. In his teenage years, he was ostracized by most of his immediate family and the religion he was born into. Being forced to find his own path in life and with some bumps and bruises along the way, he discovered some of the answers that eluded him from his early years.
One night changed the trajectory of his life. Alcohol and a lack of sleep led to a severe spinal cord injury by way of a car accident; it also led to a brief stay in the New Jersey penal system. Surviving the traumatic car accident as well as surviving the 'beast' of the American prison complex, Rez was given what many in his situation never get, a second chance, becoming a voracious reader and seeker of knowledge in the process. Encouraged by his wife, he eventually began his writing career.
Rez's vivid descriptions and literary style are refreshing and will paint a picture for the reader that will allow them to personally connect with his words in a rare way. His stories are multi-layered, always engaging the reader to examine life through a different perspective. Rez currently resides in Richmond, Virginia with his wife and four children.
