Description

In 'The Multiverse of Number Systems,' we embark on a transformative journey that reshapes your perspective on mathematics. As designers with a penchant for making numbers approachable, we introduce a distinctive number system that liberates us from the confines of traditional math. Our approach prioritizes design over complex equations, offering a fresh perspective where complexity often lies in how concepts are presented, not in the concepts themselves. We delve into the historical origins of number systems, drawing wisdom from both ancient and modern civilizations. This historical context provides a valuable toolbox of design elements essential for crafting new number systems. In our exploration, we emphasize that there are numerous paths to the correct answer, challenging the conventional idea of a single "right" method in mathematics. We encourage individualized problem-solving, empowering you to embrace your unique approach. Our journey culminates in a survey of various innovative number systems, inspiring you to create your own. Throughout, we underscore the real-world applications of these systems and the broader relevance of mathematical principles. Our mission is clear: to make mathematics less intimidating and more accessible, fostering a newfound appreciation for the boundless power of numbers.

Cristiaan Jackson & Lenny Moore

Cristiaan Jackson

Cristiaan Jackson, a visual designer, holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Their expertise spans identity, information, web, print, and motion graphic design. Cristiaan has helped design exhibitions for the Design Museum of Chicago, collaborated on campaigns like Vax Chi Nation and Unspoken for the City of Chicago, and continues to mentor aspiring visual designers. Lenny Moore

Lenny Moore holds an MFA Degree in Visual Communication Design from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) and a BFA Degree in Fine Art from Western Washington University. They are a co-author, alongside Cristiaan Jackson, of "The Multiverse of Number Systems," which delves into historical number notation and a specially designed number notation called CLNS notation. Lenny also has many other number systems they have created and are currently working on.

Lenny draws inspiration for their ideas from various fields, including science, mathematics, art, design, linguistics, philosophy, biology, and psychology. Their multidisciplinary approach to life reflects a commitment to pushing the boundaries of human understanding.
