Overview
Eleven year old Vicki Taggart knew that her family was different then other families in the rural town of Piney, Georgia. Her father, Mitch Big Daddy Taggart was a town leader and head of the Men's Association a group of like-minded citizens that held meetings in Big Daddy's trailer. One dark night, Vicki was awakened by the sound of truck tailgates dropping down and men speaking in hushed tones. She dared to peek from behind her curtain to see white sheets seemingly floating around the yard. But then she saw the body. A black man being carried into the cornfield. The morning daylight brought her to the kitchen where she joined her father and brother for breakfast. The talk was the usual, pigs for sale, and fixing the leaky ceiling. Vicki knew never to ask about the night time activities but her malleable mind came up with all sorts of acceptable explanations. So much so, that it wasn't hard when she had to make a decision that would mean the life or death of a new friend. Her decision on that fated day would alter her life in ways she never imagined.
Description

Emma Lee Taggart was a shy thirteen year old when she met the handsome young drifter in front of the general store. His generous smile and ocean blue eyes charmed young Emma and she agreed to meet up with him in a more secluded setting never imagining that her first crush would steal her innocence and then her life. The horrid crime shook the newly formed town of Piney, in Forsyth County, Georgia. Never before had such evil occurred and no one was more shaken then Emma's father, Beasley Taggart. Convinced that such a heinous crime could have never been committed by a white citizen, Taggart was convinced Negros had murdered his little girl. With the help of the towns people three Negro men already being held for lesser crimes were lynched. Now ensued a spell of fear and hate as white citizens ransacked Negro homes and set them ablaze. Beasley gave the surviving Negros until sunset to leave town. After that, the Sunset Rule was born. Negros could work in town but they had to be gone before sunset each day. This unlawful rule spread throughout the south and many towns used it not only to keep Negros from settling down but to catch them on the road after sunset and many of the Negros never made it home again. The Taggart family never forgot about little Emma Lee and Beasley Taggart used the Sunset Rule to help form his chapter of the Klu Klux Klan which was then passed down through the family. Years later, Mitch Big Daddy Taggart and his wife Bertie are parents to Vicki and Baby Mitch. Times are hard and Big Daddy is angered as Klan members move away from Piney. But something more daunting has Big Daddy on edge. Unexplained occurrences have the family living in fear. Hundreds of murdered Negros are buried in the Taggart cornfield and after all these years something is on the rise. What is this horror stalking the Taggart family and will any of them be able to stop it before it's too late?
