The Storyteller

A short story about a person's rediscovery of their core values that takes place primarily at 40 Mile Point Lighthouse on the shores of Lake Huron in Northern Michigan.

For centuries lighthouses have served as navigational aids for maritime pilots at sea, warning ships of hidden coastlines and hazardous shoals and pointing to safe entries to harbors. In “The Storyteller,” Colleen McHale travels to her hometown of Rogers City, Michigan, in order to find some personal direction following a brief but brilliant stint as an up - and - coming architect in Ann Arbor. She visits 40 Mile Point Lighthouse, a favorite place from her childhood. There she meets a perceptive stranger who, through his stories, shines a light on some of the most important things about life and living that she's recently lost sight of. Colleen rediscovers her own core values, and the lessons learned from the history and heritage of the people of Northern Michigan.

Colin Beckett is a frequent visitor and part - time resident of Rogers City, Michigan, where this story is based. His first novel, "Family Business: An Outer Banks Crime Mystery" was published last year. Earlier in his life, the Outer Banks inspired him to write a poem entitled “Currituck Sounds,” that was published in “The American Poetry Anthology, Volume IX, Number 4” by the American Poetry Association in 1989. He earned a Master of Arts degree in American History at Cleveland State University, where he graduated summa cum laude. He graduated from Kent State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. He is a member of the Midwest Chapter of Mystery Writers of America, as well as a Author Member of the Alliance of Independent Authors. He lives with his wife in Northeast Ohio where he is currently at work on his next Marty Tate mystery, as well as a new mystery series based in Traverse City, Michigan.
