About the author
Paul Overman, Ph.D. specializes in East-West dreaming practices. He is a consciousness researcher, writer and lecturer. In his private practice he mentors and trains individuals and groups in dreaming practices. He has over thirty years experience working with individuals and groups in the fields of dreams, guided archetypal imagery and creativity.
Dr. Overman’s publications include: Ten Minutes to Relax: Peaceful Retreat CDs.
His M.A. is in clinical psychology is from the University of Dayton and his Ph.D. in Integral Counseling Psychology is from the California Institute of Integral Studies, San Francisco. He has been practicing and studying yoga and Eastern meditation for thirty years. He was introduced to and practiced Christian forms of monastic contemplation and meditation in his early teens. An interest of his is unifying Christian forms of contemplation and meditation with that of the East.
He first introduced his work on and concept of “The Shamanic Dream” at the 27th Annual Conference of the International Association for the Study of Dreams in June 2010 at Asheville, NC.
In June 2012, in his presentation on “The New Dreamer: Traveling on the Waves of Consciousness” in Berkeley, CA at the 29th Annual Conference of the International Association for the Study of Dreams, he introduced his work with and concept of The Five Directions.
Dr. Paul is a specialist and innovator in soma-acoustics, the effects of sound, auditory and tactile, on consciousness, waking-dream trance and night dreaming. For over ten years he has developed his proprietary tactile-surround sound chair – Shamana™ Dream Chair – driven by special tactile transducers, speakers and headphones with special sound processing to explore, research, and enhance the multidimensional nature of dreaming and waking dreams.
