Book 2 in the Devil's Shadow series

Overview

When vengeance fades, what’s left of the man who needed it?

Captain Robert Hester had nothing left to live for. The War had taken everything he valued from him. He lost his home. His family. His cause. And his only reason for living was vengeance for the ones he loved. But, now his plans for vengeance have vanished like smoke in a night sky. All he has left are his horses, his guns and his sense of honor. So, he wanders without purpose through northern Mexico. The dreams of the loved ones killed ride with him toward death.

Description

With the war behind him and his enemies out of reach, Captain Robert Hester rides into Mexico with nothing but ghosts.

Haunted by the murder of his family and the vengeance he could not complete, Hester drifts through the harsh landscapes of the Sierra Madre—without purpose, without direction, and without hope. Until the frontier gives him a reason to stop.

When he rescues a wounded Mescalero Apache elder from ruthless scalp-hunters, Hester is pulled into a different kind of fight—one rooted in survival, not revenge. Under her guidance, he begins to learn a new way of living… and a new understanding of what it means to be a warrior.

Soon, others follow—a loyal animal, a wounded vaquero, a fragile, hard-won sense of family.

But the frontier is unforgiving.

When a small mountain town falls under threat from a band of violent raiders, Hester must choose: keep riding and leave them to their fate… or stand and fight for something that isn’t his.

Outnumbered and with little left to lose, the decision will define the man he becomes.

A powerful Western of redemption, survival, and second chances, The Shadow Grows continues the journey of Captain Robert Hester as he faces the hardest battle yet—finding a reason to live.

About The Author

ABOUT BURT Burt Tyson almost never takes off his cowboy hat, but he does tip it to the ladies. As a child, he  loved historical adventure stories like Davy Crockett and TV Westerns including Hopalong Cassidy, The Lone Ranger, Roy Rogers, and Have Gun Will Travel. As a teenager, his love of history and adventure continued as he read novels of the American Frontier. Burt continues the tradition of good men and women confronting evil in the 19th century American West as he writes The Shadow Appears and The Shadow Grows, the first two novels in his The Devil's Shadow series.  Readers won't have difficulty identifying the good guys and gals:  they'll be the ones who stand tall, saddle up despite the risk and, if they're men, always respect the ladies. In the remote small South Carolina town where Burt writes, there are lots of good men and women, but not too much adventure. He has to provide the adventure in his novels. Follow Burt by signing up for his email newsletter, newsletter@burttyson.com. When you do, you can share in his musings from the Dark Corner, stay up-to-date on forthcoming books and promotions and ride with him into the Western horizons.
