Description

"A band cemented by friendship and grounded in love can never be broken." For forty years, the Sacred Band of Thebes stood as the most feared and respected military force in Ancient Greece. Formed in 378 BCE from 150 pairs of devoted warrior companions, they shattered Spartan dominance, changed the balance of power in the Greek world, and became one of history's most legendary fighting forces. Their story reached its tragic climax at the Battle of Chaeronea in 338 BCE, where they made their final stand against the rising army of Alexander the Great. The Sacred Band of Thebes is an epic historical graphic novel that brings this extraordinary chapter of Ancient Greek history to life through the eyes of Androkles and Kallistos. After witnessing the brutal slaughter of their mothers, the two boys are taken from their village and raised under the watchful eye of Ophion, the powerful leader of Thebes. Trained from childhood to become elite warriors, they grow into men whose loyalty to one another is tested by war, duty, tradition, and destiny. As the years pass, Androkles embraces his role within the Sacred Band, while Kallistos struggles against expectations placed upon him. Bound by brotherhood yet divided by secrets, they must navigate political intrigue, forbidden love, personal sacrifice, and the relentless demands of military life in Ancient Greece. When old wounds resurface and a confrontation with Ophion changes the course of their lives forever, the two warriors find themselves leading Thebes through its greatest triumphs and darkest challenges. But as the power of Macedon rises and Alexander the Great marches across Greece, Androkles and Kallistos must prepare for the battle that will determine not only the fate of Thebes, but their own legacy. Blending historical accuracy, unforgettable characters, military adventure, LGBTQ historical themes, and the rich mythology and culture of the ancient world, The Sacred Band of Thebes is a powerful graphic novel about courage, loyalty, love, brotherhood, sacrifice, and one of the greatest warrior legacies ever recorded. Perfect for readers of historical fiction, ancient history, Greek military history, graphic novels, epic war stories, and character-driven adventures inspired by real events.
