The Ryan Hamilton Memorial Cookbook

By Susan Farren

Overview

This cookbook, created in memory of firefighter/paramedic Ryan Hamilton, is a collection of (mostly) nutritious recipes designed to support the physical and mental well-being of its readers. Each recipe was lovingly contributed by one of our career first responder resiliency instructors or by Ryan's parents. May these dishes nourish you, strengthen you, and remind you of the importance of caring for both body and mind. To your good health! Ryan Hamilton was a devoted firefighter, paramedic, and father. For twenty years, he served his community with unwavering commitment until he began to experience the symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress. Without access to the tools and support he needed, Ryan ultimately lost his battle. This book is dedicated to Ryan—whose life, service, and legacy continue to live on in the hearts of all who loved him. May it also stand as a testament to our mission of "Putting PTSD Out of Business™" and to supporting first responders and their families in healing and resilience. One hundred percent of the proceeds from this book support the Ryan Hamilton Memorial Scholarship Fund, providing assistance to first responders in need.

About The Author

After a 30-year career as a paramedic and supervisor in both the public and private sector, Susan received what was thought to be a terminal kidney cancer diagnosis. After major surgery and recovery, a physician said, "We see a lot of organ cancer in first responders." That comment inspired her to research the increased risk of disease (including cancer and ALS), depression, addiction, divorce and suicide in the first responder community. Armed with her findings and a lifetime of exposure to reactive approaches to PTSD and disease, Susan sold her home in northern California to fund a PROACTIVE approach to post-traumatic stress and behavioral wellness, and First Responders Resiliency, Inc. was established. Since 2018 FRRI has trained more than ten thousand first responders and their families nationwide with their proactive approach and trademark of Putting PTSD Out of Business.™
