Overview
Intrigue and romance are woven throughout this Elizabethan novel. A young crippled man, Jeremy Hawkins, is called upon for a second time to spy for Queen Elizabeth I during the tumultuous era before, during and after the Spanish Armada. Cousin to Sir Francis Drake, he must keep his identity hidden from everyone, including the lovely family who own The Crown and Anchor where he is lodged. While staying at the tavern, he finds something that he had never expected - love in the arms of a beautiful woman. Jeremy invites their cousin, Mary, to stay at Hawkesbury Manor as companion to his sister, Catherine, while he is away. Mary's lying, deceit and betrayal lead to a series of events that Jeremy would never have anticipated.
