This tale surveys a chap named Sur. Some observers might describe him as the quintessential all-American male. Sur wouldn't think so and would go to great extremes to prevent anybody from knowing him outside his inner circle.
And what a circle it was. He and his three buddies were next to inseparable for much of their adult lives. Ward was the rock, the soldier. Jeremy was the laid-back surfer who would become a computer geek. Then there was Cory, the warrior. Sometimes, others would refer to the four as the gang. In gest, they liked to think of themselves as the four amigos. The glue that helped to bind them together was surfing.
Sur had maybe the finest business mind of his era. In time he would find four trusted lieutenants to manage it all. There was David, the market whiz. Then Li, his cool Asian prodigy. Suave Paco became his south of the border hotelier. And then there was Luke, the cowboy.
Sur's extended family would grow ever larger along the way and would include Mei who persuaded Sur to get into the fashion business, Miguel who would become a legendary rock singer, Chen who introduced Li to the Chinese elite in Hong Kong and Betty who became the overseer of Sur's legacy.
