The Past Is a Foreign Country

Having passed four-score-and-ten, Alan May decides it is time to create a bucket list. He narrows it down, and he narrows it down some more. He winds up with a one-item list: travel to the past. He connects with his late brother-in-law via a supernatural intervention, and the pair travel through recent history and enjoy being part of things Alan wanted to see—great moments in sports, especially baseball, and important political moments that shaped modern society—and meeting many interesting people of importance not present in history books. As they become brutally aware as to how, even in this recent past, America has treated its minorities, they must fight off the urge to apply today's morality to yesteryear's mores.
