Description


In this coming of age novel, Carrot learns what love, family, and friends mean by the harsh reality called life. He and his friends are part of the nerdy group at Monrovia High School in 1965. Working at a local teenage dance club, they make their way through the social minefields of high school and trying their hand at being "adults". Carrot is transformed to "Red" as he gains self confidence and falls in love with Yolanda. JD is his friend and mentor on everything cool. Along the way, they have many encounters with friends, foes, and odd characters from the time. Music plays a big part of the vibe in their adventures. About The Author


Jim has always wondered what was around the next corner and this led him to have a very colorful life. Born in Chicago, Illinois, his family moved to Monrovia, California after WWII where he grew up with his five brothers. After graduating from La Salle High School, he spent three years in Vietnam with the Army. After his service, he had a successful career as an executive at a manufacturing plant in Monrovia, CA; worked as a cooper in St. Helena, CA; and expressed his creative talents and commitment to community as owner/sculptor of a bronze art foundry in Gold Beach, OR. For the past eighteen years he has been living on the Big Island of Hawaii. After clearing two acres of land, he and his wife Deanne, built a home of their own design to house their extended family, in true Hawaiian fashion.
