About The Author
Delbert (Del) Richard Marcy was born in a small town in northern Idaho, and finished High School in Kellogg, Idaho. On completion of High School, Del went to work for the Bunker Hill mining company working at the zinc plant, before eventually being introduced to working underground as a hard rock miner. As a young man, he worked at Bunker Hill for several years in various roles underground before moving to Nevada where he worked as a drilling operator on various drilling rigs that were part of gold exploration initiatives in Nevada.
Soon he would return to the Silver Valley (Kellogg, Idaho) where he got a job with the Hecla Mining company working at the Lucky Friday mine in Mullen, Idaho; and then the Star mine located in Burke, Idaho. The Lucky Friday mine was one of the most dangerous mines Del worked in. He survived several cave ins, as well as four air blasts. In one of those air blasts, he lost his partner. These near-death experiences will cause a man to either turn to alcohol, or to God. Del chose God.
Eventually Del left the Silver Valley and moved to Republic, Washington where he worked underground with the Republic Mining District for a few years, and then moved on to work at the Stillwater mine near Fishtail, Montana. From Montana, Del moved on to Nevada where he worked at a mine near Elko, Nevada, and eventually moved to Winnemucca, Nevada.
After 40 years of working underground as a hard rock miner, Del retired and returned to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho to live out the remaining years of his life. Today he lives a happy life at a retirement center close to family and friends, and leads the Sunday service for his fellow residents.
