It is owned by entrepreneur Roger Whitney and his son Andrew. Book One, ‘The Last Resort’, begins with the Whitneys in the process of developing a new stage at the Resort. The proposal has attracted opposition from locals and protests from a green action group. Leading the group is Laurie Lyall who is a passionate anti-development environmental activist and he is determined to expose the corrupt local council. His life is now threatened because of his involvement.

Author Kumari and husband John live in an Over 50’s resort in Queensland. In their past careers, John was a business manager and Kumari, a registered nurse. After their marriage in 1992, they combined their skills to manage retirement resorts in N.S.W. and Queensland. They used to joke that the many interesting characters and unusual situations they encountered would one day provide a wealth of material for a book. When Kumari became wheelchair bound following foot surgery in 2010, she realised the period of physical inactivity presented her with a golden opportunity. She decided to weave her memories of those management years into a fictionalised story. The result was not one novel, but a series. The series follow the trials and tribulations of the residents, employees and diverse characters of Keeala Resort. Kumari also introduces social comment about ageing issues and some of her characters draw her readers into a dialogue about the social and practical questions encountered in people’s mature years. Sixteen grandchildren fill in the spaces when she is not writing.
